SMALL TOOL, CLEAR PURPOSE

About JSONWorkbench

We built JSONWorkbench to make an everyday task calmer: turning a crowded response or configuration file into something you can understand.

What the tool does

JSONWorkbench validates standard JSON, adds readable indentation, removes unnecessary whitespace and optionally sorts keys in nested objects. A structural summary shows the root type, counts of values and the deepest level. The tool works with pasted text or a local UTF-8 file, and lets you copy or download the result.

Why the safeguards matter

A formatter can look successful while quietly changing the document. We chose to reject duplicate keys instead of keeping only the last value. We also reject numeric values outside the JavaScript safe range and preserve the spelling of accepted numeric tokens. These choices make problems visible so that you can repair the source deliberately.

The tool accepts documents up to 2 MiB, with a maximum nesting depth of 256 and a generated output limit of 8 MiB. These limits help keep processing manageable in a browser. It does not validate an application schema, repair malformed data automatically or certify that a document meets your business rules.

A simple privacy model

The document processing runs in your browser. No account is needed, and the tool does not upload your JSON, remember documents between sessions or overwrite your original file. Hosting still involves ordinary web request metadata; our privacy policy explains the distinction.

Who operates it

JSONWorkbench is a free utility operated by Fmfm Stars. Suggestions, accessibility reports and concise bug examples are welcome at fmfm.stars@gmail.com. Use fictional data when sharing an example.
